In the United States, we love to give our cities nicknames. Philadelphia is no exception. It is known as the ‘City of Brotherly and Sisterly Love’. The city is loved by fashion editors and travel bloggers alike, being named as one of Conde Nast’s Best Destinations in the World. In the words of Conde Nast, “there’s something really special about Philadelphia”.

For anyone interested in American history, Philly is a must-visit. It played a crucial role in the American Revolution and was the location for the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The food scene in Philadelphia is why you have to visit.

If you’re taking an extended visit to Philadelphia, why not try out its Craft Beer Trail? The five counties offer over 90 craft breweries which have been a focal point of the city for generations. The Craft Beer Trail of Greater Philadelphia gives you a tour of the city and its neighbouring regions, including Delaware and Montgomery counties. You can try some delicious food while sampling the city’s best craft beer. There is no set route to the trail, meaning that you can decide how long you want to spend and how far you want to visit.

Not every state can say that they have one of the best restaurants around. Esquire magazine’s list of the Best New Restaurants lists two Philadelphia establishments. The Kalaya Thai Kitchen was named the Best Restaurant of the Year, while the chef at Honeysuckle won Chef of the Year. At Kalaya, you can explore authentic Thai cuisine within an Italian market. Honeysuckle is a restaurant that puts nourishment, community, and lineage at its heart. It’s the brainchild of Omar Tate and is the kind of restaurant that you could only find in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is famous for its Philly cheesesteak. You’ll want to indulge in at least one of these savoury sandwiches during your trip. The intersection between South 9th Street and Passyunk Avenue houses some of the best cheesesteaks that you’ll find in the city.

If you are looking to bring home a little bit of Philly, you need to visit the Reading Terminal Market. It’s over 120 years old and offers you the best in fresh produce from across Philadelphia. If you’re a foodie, mark an afternoon on your itinerary to visit its restaurants, independent shops and to tour its food counters.
